Solana Beach School District takes great pride in its school facilities, some of which have been around since the 1930s, and is committed to keeping all facilities clean and modern. Solana Beach School District, established in the 30s, built its first facility on the Central School site consisting of a one-room schoolhouse on approximately 5 acres. Central School is now home to the District Office and Child Development Center on North Rios in Old Solana Beach.
The District comprises approximately 18.7 square miles bounded on the west by the Pacific Ocean; on the north by Cardiff and Encinitas; the east by Rancho Santa Fe, Escondido and Poway; and the south by Del Mar. To see a street listing of school assignments, please click

Solana Beach School District has established a baseline of furniture and equipment that will be provided for each classroom and school facility. The District has established standards such as high-quality flooring, tackable panels, casework and whiteboards, as well as an electrical and network infrastructure that will carry us into the future. The District has and will continue to design and build schools with stimulating and humane climates, where students find success, reinforcement, and encouragement while learning.
- Carmel Creek, located in Carmel Valley, was constructed in 1995. Carmel Creek has 34 classrooms on a district-owned 3-acre site.*
- Skyline School, located on Lomas Santa Fe Drive in Solana Beach, was constructed in phases between 1955 and 1961 and was modernized in 2000. Skyline School has 29 classrooms on an approximately 10-acre campus.
- Solana Highlands, located in Carmel Valley, was constructed in two phases (1986 and 1999) Solana Highlands now had 36 classrooms on a district-owned 3-acre site.*
* Carmel Valley schools (Solana Highlands and Carmel Creek) participate in a Joint-Use Agreement with the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department. The playing fields at each site are shared-use with the school and community park.
- Solana Pacific, located in Carmel Valley, was constructed in 2004. Solana Pacific has 32 classrooms on a 9.6-acre site.
- Solana Santa Fe, located in Fairbanks Ranch, was constructed in 1993. Solana Santa Fe has 27 classrooms on a 5-acre campus.
- Solana Vista, located east of Interstate 5 in Solana Beach, was built in 1971 and modernized in 2000. Solana Vista has 28 classrooms on a 10-acre site.
- Solana Ranch - The Solana Beach School District continues with the process of opening a seventh elementary school. The District plans to build a school that will have capacity to serve Kindergarten through sixth grade students, as well as Child Development Center preschool and before/after school care options for parents. Students who live within the Solana Beach School District boundaries in the Pacific Highlands Ranch community will be able to attend this newest school. The projected opening will be for the 2014-15 school year.
Until construction of the new school is complete, elementary students (K-6) will continue to attend Carmel Creek, Solana Highlands, and Solana Pacific.
Naming Contest Results for School #7
At the October 11, 2012, regularly scheduled board meeting, the Solana Beach School District’s Board of Education took action to select the name of its new elementary school located in Pacific Highlands Ranch. The Board selected from a list of proposed names solicited from the community and vetted through the School #7 Design Committee and district leadership to arrive at the final decision. The Board voted unanimously to name Solana Beach School District's seventh school, Solana Ranch Elementary.
The groundbreaking ceremony for Solana Ranch Elementary will be held November 15, 2012, at 3:30 pm at 13605 Pacific Highlands Ranch Parkway, San Diego 92130.
- School #8 - As part of the Pacific Highlands Ranch master-planned community, a ten-acre parcel of land has been set aside for an optional school located on the east side of Golden Cypress Place. At this time, the District has no plans to purchase the land or construct the school.
